How to Store Edible Sheets for Image Decorations

Sep 18,2020 icinginks 0

When we personalize our gifts, they are fondly remembered for years.  Custom-decorated edible sheets for special occasions are a sure-shot way of winning hearts!

However, sometimes taking care of edible sheets used for these decorations can be challenging.

For best results, you can buy edible icing paper and frosting sheets from Icinginks that are best in quality and are FDA approved.

Let’s address some difficulties faced by users while decorating their cakes, cookies, and cupcakes with edible frosting sheets and wafer papers. This article will help you with storing the edible papers the right way.

DO NOT refrigerate

No matter how tempting it appears, edible sheets just don't go in the refrigerator. That would lead to immediate destruction of the edible papers as the chilled and compressed air is not good for them at all.

Instead, keep these edible sheets stored flat in the original white cardboard box within the silver bag sealed tightly inside the ziplock bag at a cool and dry place. Make sure that there is no direct sunlight where the bag is stored and the bag is properly sealed, otherwise the edible papers might be exposed to moisture, which would ultimately ruin them.

These sheets come with a shelf-life of 24 months.

Avoid highly humid or dry areas

Exposure to highly dry areas can cause your edible sheets to start cracking and become brittle; this is also possible if the re-closable bag isn’t tightly sealed. To fix this issue, the airtight bag in which the sheets come needs to be kept at a cool place. In case the papers have already started to become brittle, here’s a life hack you might try; put a warm, damp cloth on the bag for a few minutes. This would soften the edible sheets enough to be used again. Just make sure that the warm cloth doesn’t touch the sheets directly at any cost.

Similarly, highly humid areas can also ruin the edible sheets, making them too moist to be used. If this happens, the edible sheet can get stuck to the bag, making it hard to remove it and can eventually ruin the rest of the sheets too. Moving the sheets to a slightly dry environment can help with this issue. Air-conditioned rooms have also proven effective in removing moisture from the edible sheets.

Important Storage Notes

1. Exposure to sunlight and strong fluorescent lights can cause the discoloration of the edible sheets.
2. The quality of the edible ink can affect image decoration. If the ink is too dry, the image decoration will not blend with it. Hence, only the best quality edible printing ink should be considered for printing decoration and other images on edible sheets. You can find the premium quality edible ink cartridges for printers at Icinginks.
3. If used on products such as ice-creams, edible sheets can get frozen. It is necessary to be careful while thawing the image as it can break.

Valuable Storage Tips

1. The best place to store your edible icing sheets and wafer papers would be a plastic filing box. A tightly sealed filing box will help against extreme climates.
2. To ensure the edible sheets remain separate, you can place each one in hanging file folders.
3. To counter issues of humidity, you can place desiccant packs at the bottom of the box. If moisture is a seasonal occurrence, then the desiccant packs can be placed during those specific seasons.
4. Edible papers usually come enclosed in a sliver bag; do not remove them from this bag while storing them. The silver bags add an extra layer of protection to the decorations.

A Final Thought

Using edible sheets for decorating your favorite dessert is a great way to express your feelings. Store your edible sheets safely so they can be in the best of shape wherever you need to use them.
